Richard K. Gaines, M.D., F.A.B.O.S., F.A.A.O.S.

Dr. Richard Gaines is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with special interests in sports medicine, joint replacement and fracture care. Dr. Gaines has been practicing in Volusia County since 1992 and grew up in the Daytona Beach area. He was valedictorian at Father Lopez High School and is in the FLHS Hall of Fame. He attended Davidson College for undergraduate study and then attended the University Of Florida College Of Medicine. His internship and orthopaedic residency were completed at Emory University in Atlanta, GA prior to completing a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Miami during one of their national championship seasons. Dr. Gaines sees all aspects of surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic problems and employs the latest technology in the care of his patients. His main interests are in arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle. He also performs joint replacement procedures of the hip, knee and shoulder including partial knee replacements and reverse total shoulder arthroplasties. Dr. Gaines has been involved with sports teams locally including several high schools, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the Daytona Cubs professional baseball team. He has served on many different committees and has held executive positions for Halifax Health, Volusia Health Network, the Volusia County Medical Society and the Halifax Insurance Plan. He also is a Clinical Instructor for the Florida State College of Medicine and has had similar roles for the Family Practice Residency Program and Nova Southeastern Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Gaines joined the Orthopaedic Clinic of Daytona Beach in 2015. He and his wife, Susan, have three children.
